To show markers on a map, we need to know their position, e.g., the latitude and longitude. Geocoding is the process of converting addresses (like '1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA') into geographic coordinates (like latitude 37.423021 and longitude -122.083739), which you can use to place markers on a map, or position the map. You're now ready to start reviewing.Ĭlick Again if you had no idea and need to see the word again in the same session.Ĭlick Good if you had some idea of the definition or had to take a while to recall it.Ĭlick Easy if you knew the definition right away. Now simply double click on the downloaded file and the entire deck will automatically be imported into Anki. So let's download the shared deck so that you can get started right away. If you do find the need to learn more words, feel free to search for a shared deck that is more comprehensive. Your time is probably better spent reviewing concepts and doing practice exams. Sure, memorizing thousands of words is ultimately better, but the returns would be less and less. Students of mine have memorized all 400 (well, there's actually 405 in the deck) in as little as 2-3 weeks, 15 minutes per day. Why 400 words? The SAT will test you on much more but I've found that 400 is the perfect dose to get the greatest score improvement with the least amount of effort. My students have used the other shared decks but they are either too overwhelming (with thousands of words) or riddled with typos and bad definitions. Definitions are as student-friendly as possible and each card also includes the part of speech and the percentage of times the word has shown up in past released exams. Luckily for you, I have made a free deck for everyone containing the top 400 words (using an outside analysis of over 60 released exams). The next step is to either import someone else's deck or write your own. After you've installed it, open it up and you should have a blank slate with just the "Default" deck. Getting Startedįirst, download Anki for your computer at No peeking at the definition like you would on a wordlist.Īnki can be used and synced with any computer or phone, so you have easy access to your daily flashcards wherever you are. Either you can recite the definition or you can't. If you're particularly ambitious, you can configure that setting to a higher amount or review more often than once per day.Īnki's flashcards force you to be honest with yourself. That way, you're maximizing your time with unfamiliar words while still maintaining a connection with the ones you've done.Īnki sets the amount of words you review each day so you know when to stop and you won't feel guilty about it. While it does takes repetition at regular intervals for our brains to fully process and store information, Anki makes this ridiculously easy. Words that you already know will show up the least often while words you struggle with will show up more frequently. Sorry, there just isn't a way to just look at a word once and remember it forever. Numerous research studies have found that the best way to remember something is to regularly encounter it just as you're about to forget it. It's based on a complex algorithm that gets closer and closer to timing your brain's memory based on your responses. Meet AnkiĪnki is a spaced-repetition software that manages flashcards and presents them to you at the optimal time. Or thinking you know the definitions when you really don't.įortunately, there's a free program that solves all those problems and makes the whole process of memorizing things as painless as possible. Then there's the problem of going over words you already know but you're not sure you know. In fact, it's so overwhelming that most students either give up after a certain point or don't start at all. There's nothing more intimidating than pages upon pages of SAT words and their definitions. And when you do stop, you feel guilty for not studying more. There are several things that make stacks of flash cards and gigantic lists extremely ineffective. Wasting time flipping through words you already know. Stacks of flash cards sprawled out across the desk. When you look at what some students go through to cram some vocab in their heads, it's no wonder most students don't bother. Why I Don't Like Physical Flash Cards and Lists It's also probably the single most painful thing to do when studying for the SAT's. If you've read this previous post, you should know that the single most important thing required to do well on critical reading is to memorize vocabulary. The gauge of the needle is determined by the type of medication administered. Refer to agency policy for pediatric needle lengths. In general, the recommended needle length for an adult is 1 inch to 1 ½ inches (25 mm to 38 mm), but the needle length is shorter for children. The length of the needle used at the vastus lateralis site is based on the patient’s age, weight, and body mass index. See Figure 18.33 for an image of the vastus lateralis injection site. To help relax the patient, ask the patient to lie flat with knees slightly bent or have the patient in a sitting position. The outer middle third of the muscle is used for injections. This muscle is located on the anterior lateral aspect of the thigh and extends from one hand’s breadth above the knee to one hand’s breadth below the greater trochanter. The vastus lateralis site is commonly used for immunizations in infants and toddlers because the muscle is thick and well-developed. See Figure 18.32 for an image of locating the ventrogluteal site on a patient.įigure 18.32 Ventrogluteal Site Vastus Lateralis Up to 3 mL of medication may be administered in the ventrogluteal muscle of an average adult and up to 1 mL in children. Refer to agency policies regarding needle length for infants, children, and adolescents. Children and infants require shorter needles. A thin adult may require a 5/8-inch to 1-inch (16 mm to 25 mm) needle, while an average adult may require a 1-inch (25 mm) needle, and a larger adult (over 70 kg) may require a 1-inch to 1½-inch (25 mm to 38 mm) needle. The needle length is based on patient weight and body mass index. An aqueous solution can be given with a 20- to 25-gauge needle, whereas viscous or oil-based solutions are given with 18- to 21-gauge needles. The needle gauge used at the ventrogluteal site is determined by the solution of the medication ordered. See Figure 18.31 for an image demonstrating how to accurately locate the ventrogluteal site using your hand.įigure 18.31 Locating the Ventrogluteal Site This is the preferred site for all oily and irritating solutions for patients of any age. Insert the needle into the “V” formed between your index and middle fingers. Extend your index finger to the anterior superior iliac spine and spread your middle finger pointing towards the iliac crest. Place the heel or palm of your hand on the greater trochanter, with the thumb pointed toward the belly button. Use your right hand for the left hip or your left hand for the right hip. To locate the ventrogluteal site, place the patient in a supine or lateral position. This site involves the gluteus medius and minimus muscle and is the safest injection site for adults and children because it provides the greatest thickness of gluteal muscles, is free from penetrating nerves and blood vessels, and has a thin layer of fat. Additional information regarding injections in each of these sites is provided in the following subsections. The ventrogluteal site is generally recommended for IM medication administration in adults, but IM vaccines may be administered in the deltoid site. The vastus lateralis site is preferred for infants because that muscle is most developed. Anatomic SitesĪnatomic sites must be selected carefully for intramuscular injections and include the ventrogluteal, vastus lateralis, and the deltoid. Research has found administering medications at 10 seconds per mL is an effective rate for IM injections, but always review the drug administration rate per pharmacy or manufacturer’s recommendations. Intramuscular injections are administered at a 90-degree angle. Medication fluid amounts up to 0.5-1 mL can be injected in one site in infants and children, whereas adults can tolerate 2-3 mL. Additionally, the muscle mass of infants and young children cannot tolerate large amounts of medication volume. However, if a patient is thin, a shorter needle length is used because there is less fat tissue to advance through to reach the muscle. The length of the needle must be long enough to pass through the subcutaneous tissue to reach the muscle, so needles up to 1.5 inches long may be selected. Muscle has an abundant blood supply that allows medications to be absorbed faster than the subcutaneous route.įactors that influence the choice of muscle to use for an intramuscular injection include the patient’s size, as well as the amount, viscosity, and type of medication. The intramuscular (IM) injection route is used to place medication in muscle tissue. 18.6 Administering Intramuscular Medications The device is rechargeable with a low power light indicator, and a full charge of the 300mAh battery takes only 1 to 2 hours, providing about 12 days of regular use. This device emits ultrasonic sounds with 3 different sound waves – stable frequency, undulating frequency, and irregular frequency sound waves – to prevent dogs from getting used to simple frequency and reduce the training effect on the simple waves for a long time. By pressing the button, you can stop your dog from barking, digging, and fighting, among other bad behaviors. The ultrasonic dog barking deterrent device emits ultrasonic sound at 25kHz which is above the hearing range of humans but within the hearing range of dogs, making it more effective in controlling their bad behavior. But before you make a purchase, take some time to consider which factors are most important to you to ensure you find the best whistle for your furry friend. You'll also want to make sure that it is simple to adjust the frequency as needed.Īre you tired of constantly yelling at your dog to get them to pay attention? Do you want to have a better behaved pup? If so, a dog whistle may be the solution you've been looking for. Look for a whistle that is made of high-quality materials and is designed to be comfortable to hold and blow. When shopping for a dog whistle, you'll also want to consider its durability and ease of use. Additionally, think about the distance you'll need your whistle to reach and how easy it is to produce the sound. Different frequencies work better for different breeds and sizes of dogs, so you'll want to do some research to figure out what will work best for your specific pet. Before you make a purchase, there are a few factors you should consider.įirstly, it's important to decide what frequency you want your dog whistle to be. But with so many options available, it can be overwhelming to figure out which one is right for you and your furry friend. If you're looking for an effective way to train your dog, a dog whistle can be a useful tool to have. If you have any suggestions for the over 55 crowd with lateral knee movement issues, just let me know, as sometimes “kick backs” and “double side-steps” yield knee twinges. I want to thank you for helping so many of us focus on getting healthier. I still go to the library to check out Walk at Home DVDs and buy the ones I like (those I’m hogging away from others at the library). I really like them especially “The Big Burn – 2 miles of intervals” and “A Closer 2 mile walk”. I keep a food diary and exercise 6 days a week, at least 3 times a week with your videos. I started with, thankfully, being able to do 1 mile a day and now, a year later, am doing a mix of 2 or 3 miles a day. I have knee issues so appreciate not having to get up & down, the simplicity of just walking. I weighed about 315 lbs and was coming to terms with my kids all being away at college, the quiet, the “what to do next?” It was a year of big changes and taking care of me was one of them. In February 2017 I went to the library to pick up several different exercise videos: yoga, walking, for seniors, all types. Being in your own home not worried about others looking or watching how you’re doing your workout is a great thing for the ones who take things slower than others!!! I feel amazing! I’ve gone from doing 1 mile a day to now 4-5 miles a day!! And I highly recommend Walk at Home! There’s so many times you just don’t feel like leaving the house to go be around others at a gym. So far I’ve lost 40 lbs in a year and still working to do more. Felt pretty good to have something that was actually falling off! I actually wasn’t able to wear this dress at the wedding because it was too big. I started noticing a change and difference in the day, had more energy, and was slowly seeing a change in how I saw myself. I went from doing just walking then moved to HIIT training in a few months. I changed how I ate, and I was doing 2-3 miles of Walk at Home every day. I wasn’t the happiest with how I looked and felt in the dress and to think I would be standing in front at a wedding I had to make a change. I was asked to be a bridesmaid a month before and the before photo was when I found the dress I would be wearing. I’ve done walking DVDs for a few years but didn’t make a lifestyle change till March of 2017. If you’re ever in Orlando, I’ll walk with you!!! (Even outdoors!!) Thank you so much for having a great workout program that anyone can do at any level. People ask me if I have a personal trainer and I say “yep, Leslie Sansone”. The miracle miles program is absolute perfection as I can tailor my workout for the exact time I have, I highly recommend it to everyone. I’m more confident, I am more toned, my “fat pants” don’t even fit any more. In two months I’m down 15 pounds but most importantly I look and feel 100 % better. I pulled out my Miracle Miles DVD set and band and made a promise to change both my activity level and my diet. I then saw that picture, posted by a friend on FB, and I barely recognized myself. I had done your workouts before but until I saw the “before” picture that I’ve attached, I was just complacent. I hated the way I felt but at the same time, I felt powerless to change anything. I’m 39 years old, mother of 2, and have been struggling with weight gain and a slowing metabolism. Once you’re done with this, get your scissors or cutters and cut the hole. Place your magnifying glass on top of the cutout and trace the outer part of the glass to create an outline. Remember that narrow piece of the shoebox you cut out earlier? Well, you’ll need that for this part of your DIY projector. Step 4: Cut a hole on the piece of the shoebox you cut out in Step 2. Making the Lens Photo by Jo Szczepanska via Unsplash By blacking all the inner panels, the light coming out of your phone would be more directed towards the only exit, which is the magnifying lens you will be installing later.Īlternatively, you could also use foil as a cover instead of the paper or paint. Using the paper or the spray paint, cover the inner part of the box black. Step 3: Blackout the inside of the shoebox. That small panel is where you will be attaching your lens later. Be sure not to damage or overcut the piece you’re taking away because you’ll use that later. We will start off making the body by cutting one of the narrow sides of the shoebox. Step 2: Cut one of the narrow sides of the shoebox. Finally, if you are buying a magnifying glass, be sure to remove the handle because we won’t have any use for it.Īlso, if you’re not comfortable using scissors, cutters, and glue guns, ask someone to help you (better safe than sorry). Your black sheets of paper or spray paint should also be enough to cover the inner part of the shoebox. For the shoebox and the cardboards, make sure to get something that could fit and hold your phone. Making the Body of a DIY Projector Photo by George Hodan via Needpixįirst things first, you have to make sure that you’ve gathered all the materials that we listed above. Compared to your usual phone stand or a phone cup holder, the one you’ll be using for the projector is more upright.ĭoing each part before assembling the whole phone projector will make your life ten times easier. Finally, the projector’s phone stand is something that is built differently. The lens is where most of the science takes place. The body is the largest part but the easiest one to do. A DIY projector is a much cheaper alternative with a lighter build. Not all people could readily get this device, though, so we will also learn today how to make a projector. By using one, you would be able to watch movies on a larger area like your bedroom wall. These things can come as battery-operated or wired like the Nebula Capsule or the Sony Portable Pico.
